Soup, Sandwich, & Sabbath - Study for Lent on Sundays -11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m

For four Sundays during Lent, the LCPC Christian Education Committee invites you to stay after worship for a light lunch and study of the new book “Sabbath in the Suburbs” by MaryAnn McKibben Dana. She is a Presbyterian pastor in Virginia who writes about the challenges and benefits of making space for intentional spiritual rest and renewal. Pastor Sandy liked the book so much that she’d like to read it with a group of you. CE is hoping that a Sunday lunch time will allow more of you to participate than our previous Wednesday Lent evening soup suppers & study.

Sunday, February 17th the Sabbath in the Suburbs & lunch/class will begin, 11:30am -12:30pm.
Sunday, February 24th there will still be lunch, Sabbath book study is on hold while LCPC Mission Committee has an event planned for all to experience: Presenters will be LCPC members and missionaries - Stan & Mary Jeppesen sharing about their medical mission to Guatemala and Ann Powell will share about her mission trip to Kenya.
Sundays, March 3rd, 10th, and 17th: Sabbath in the Suburbs Books study resumes for the next three Sundays. Again, lunch will also be served.
Sunday March 24th, which is Palm Sunday - pencil in the date and watch for more information as a Seder meal will be served as preparation for Holy Week.
Finally:  EASTER! is Sunday, March 31st this year.  You’ll be on your own for lunch, but it will be a glorious day to celebrate in worship together!

You don’t have a copy of the book?? That’s alright here are three ways to participate:
1) No reading necessary – come to the study and glean from others
2) Pick up a copy of the book at LCPC for a suggested donation of $14.
3) Download “Sabbath in the Suburbs” to your e-reader or in a PDF Format. Visit SabbathintheSuburbs.wordpress.com to find options via Chalice Press and Amazon.com.

New! Summer Faith Formation Associate. Welcome Kendall Jeske to LCPC

Hello LCPC friends,

A few of you have heard the news, some of you knew we were in this process and for others it may be first time news - we are bringing on someone to help out for children & youth ministry this summer at Lake City Presbyterian Church.

This "new guy's" name is Kendall Jeske and his title is "Summer Faith Formation Associate". His role will be working with the middle/high school youth and co-directing Vacation Bible School, in addition he'll be helping out with & learning what it means to work in children, youth, & family ministry in a congregation. This summer position is paid and approx. 15-20 hrs/wk and he is joining us for July 1st through August 31st. I am really excited to have him come on board and think you'll like him a lot

So he starts in the office on Wednesday this week (tomorrow!) and I'm hoping we'll have a chance for people to start meeting him on the 5th - more info on that later. If you get a call or an email from Kendall for Lake City Pres - He is perfectly legit so please don't hang up on or black list him in your inbox. (Thanks!)

Here is a message from Kendall to you, help me to welcome him!

Hello! My name is Kendall Jeske and I am graduate of Pacific Lutheran University and soon to be a seminary student, beginning this fall. I am very excited to have the chance to work with LCPC while being the Faith Formation Associate this summer. I'm especially excited to meet the youth and their families and to see what kinds of things I can learn in doing so. The past few summers I've spent at a Bible Camp in Idaho and a youth outreach center in Edmonds, WA. While I am a part of the LCP community this summer, please feel free to ask me questions, tell me jokes, and share your faith stories with me. One thing I ask of you, however, is to pray for me, for Leena, and for the youth and families of LCP and the surrounding community. I am excited to meet you, and to see what God has in store for us this summer. Peace be with you all! -Kendall Jeske

Help welcome Kendall into our congregation and please keep in your prayers for the next nine weeks!

Peace in Jesus,

~Leena Prindle
Director of Faith Formation
