Lunch with LCPC Missionaries - Sunday Feb 24th. 11:15-12:15

This Sunday, February 24th, LCPC Missions Department invites you to experience mission opportunities of a few members who have traveled in the past year. This Lunch & Presentation will be in the Fellowship Hall immediately following our 10 a.m. worship service - approx. 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
Mary & Stan Jeppesen and Ann Powell will share stories, travels, pictures and some of what God is doing in these far-away places.

• The Jeppesens will be sharing their opportunity to work with Guatemala Village Health in Guatemala - Central America.
• Ann Powell will be talking about her trip to Africa also involving health care ministry.
• Lunch will be served and presentations will occur during the lunch.
• All are welcome - including children! (There will be care available for children not interested in the presentation).

Come see and hear about the miracles God is working in our world through God's people!

Summer Mission Oportunity 2011: Kake, Alaska

The Missions Department at Lake City Presbyterian Church is gearing up to host a mission trip to Kake, Alaska for summer 2011 - this year! This is an intergenerational trip planned to include youth, young adults, and adults alike partnering LCPC with Kake Memorial Presbyterian Church ministering to the children of Kake through Vacation Bible School and a lunch program, plus working on various projects throughout the community. 

An Information meeting will be held this Sunday, January 16th after worship (approx. 11:30 a.m.). At this meeting you'll get answers or at least opportunity to ask questions, concerning dates, costs, projects, fundraising ideas, lodging/meals,participating as a family, etc. If you are unable to make it to the meeting but are interested in find out more about this trip please contact Holly Kennell  or myself with your questions.

If you are not able to be on the trip there will be plenty of opportunities to be on the team through prayer,fundraising, and prepping or providing materials for the projects.

Galactic Blast! ~ August 16-20, 2010
Morning VBS ~ 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.  ~ Age 3 years to entering Grade 5 (Fall 2010)

Afternoon Program ~ 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ~ Grade 1 through Grade 5, including youth helpers in grades 6-12.

Cost per child for the week: $20 for morning program, $40 for morning and afternoon.
$100 maximum cost per family and scholarships are available per request.

Lent Wednesdays & Holy Week Happenings

We still have Lent Wednesday Soup Supper & Bible Study going on tonight and next Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. All Ages welcome! 

* The Adult Bible Study class is focusing on Jesus' ministry and miracles in the Gospel books and people are really enjoying digging into the scripture. Each class topic stands on it its own - so if this is your first time attending - it's alright, you won't have to catch up!

* There are also classes for the middle/high school age crowd, elementary school age children, and nursery care is provided for infants/toddlers/preschool children.

Up and coming in two weeks is Holy Week signifying Jesus' journey to the cross and eventually his resurrection at Easter. Here are a few dates to pencil or type into your calendar:

* Palm Leaf Cross Folding Party - Saturday March 27th, 9:30 a.m. - Have you ever folded a palm leaf into a cross? It's a really neat trick to share with others once you've figured it out. Come join in on a Palm Cross folding party in preparation for Palm Sunday worship. The crosses will be handed out to all in attendance on Sunday morning. Children & youth welcome to participate!! * Palm Sunday Worship - Sunday March 28th, 10:00 a.m. - Have you heard the word 'Hosanna' and wondered what that's all about? Join in worship as we acknowledge Jesus as the one who saves us from our sin and gives us a life of freedom. There will be waving of palm branches just as when the people ushered Jesus into Jerusalem as their Messiah-to-be.

* Maundy Thursday Worship - Thursday April 1st, 7:00 p.m. - Remembrance of Jesus' Last Supper with the disciples at Passover (Communion) and his commission to serve others by following his example. Pastor Sandra Hackett will preside over this service as her first official worship service at LCPC. Nursery care provided for children ages infant-4yrs.

* "Spruce the Church for Easter" Work Party - Saturday April 3rd. 9:00 a.m. to ???. We'll be spring-cleaning the church grounds and working on some inside tasks as well. (All ages and skill levels welcome!). Contact Steve Babinec or Irv Kellenberger with questions. 

* Easter Sunday Celebration - Sunday April 4th, 10:00 a.m. Worship Service, Nursery care provided for infants through age 3, Sunday school (including Egg Hunt) for grades K-5 provided during worship.

Soup & Bread Supper and Bible Study

Wed. Feb. 24th  - Wed. March 24th ~ 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

All ages welcome (see program plans below). 

Come and join in a simple soup and bread supper with a community of friends and family focused on Jesus. There will be a small suggested donation amount but this is a make-donation-if- you-are-able meal.

Separate study tracks provided for all ages:

* Adults: Comparison study of various New Testament stories found in the Gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John. Come for a new perspective or simply a refresher on the good news God gives us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Led by Jerry Berger,.

* Children in grades K-5 are invited to participate in  games, songs, hands-on activities exploring the purpose of the season of Lent. Led by Leena Prindle (DFF).

* Youth in grades 6-12 get to experience Jesus through an interactive Bible study. Games, worship, and hangout time in the youth room included. led by Rebecca Coffey (Youth Ministry Associate).

* Free nursery care provided for infants, toddlers,  and preschool age children. Provided by Margaux Blitch

Class this Sunday 1/24 & 2/3 - What Do Presbyterians Believe?

Lake City Pres is offering two one-hour sessions on Presbyterian beliefs and Theology on Jan. 24th and Feb. 3rd.

Adults and youth who are new or have questions/curiousity regarding Christianity or Presbyterian beliefs or if you just want a theology refresher course - all are invited to participate in this free class. Leena Prindle will be facilitating the class using materials provided by ThoughtfulChristian.com

Sunday January 24th - 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. (Time has been/may be adjusted due to the Annual Congregational meeting that follows worship).
Session 1: Covers historical Christianity background to answer "What Does Presbyterian Mean?" and "Who are Presbyterians & What Do They Believe?".

Sunday February 3rd - 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Session 2: Briefly covers the topics of God, Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit, Salvation by Grace, Election and Predestination, Church, Sacraments (Baptism/Communion) and Future Life in relation to Christian and Presbyterian Beliefs.

Both class sessions will provide handouts and references for further personal research.

Childcare: If you have children infant through 1st grade childcare is available in the nursery upon RSVP. please contact Leena Prindle by the day before each class starts so we can provide care. Also if your child will be hungry please provide a snack/lunch for them.

The Lake City Presbyterian Mission Department requested that I send out an online reminder to let you know there is one more day to sign up for:

ALL CHURCH Mid-Winter Mission Trip

Bellingham,WA/Whatcom County/Lummi Reservation 

Wednesday February 17th through Sunday February 21st, 2010

(takes place during Seattle/Shoreline/Northshore School Districts Mid-Winter Break)

We still have a 'mininum' number of spots to fill to be able to commit to the trip. With a few more registrations we can meet the goal, Mission Dept. will be making that decision tomorrow night at their monthly meeting. "All-church" means that all ages are welcome. Real beds will be provided so you won't be roughing it. All types of folks are needed. I'm planning to attend and the Mission Team has even encouraged me to bring my daughters along if I need (so this really is an all ages effort - come on your own or bring your family!)

Mission: We will be helping some folks in the Lummi nation, who provide housing for those in need, and perhaps other projects as well.  Final decisions about projects will be made after we know the composition of the team.  We will be taking care of ourselves, so drivers, cooks and spiritual leaders are also encouraged to participate.

Accommodations: The team will be housed at Lutherwood, a Christian camp in Bellingham, WA, overlooking Lake Samish.  Real beds will be provided, so this is not a mission trip that will require you to “rough it.”

Cost: The general cost is $190 per person**, which will cover travel, accommodations, meals at the camp and programming. We need a commitment from you and a non-refundable deposit of $50 by January 5th to secure your place on the team.  The final $140 must be paid by January 15th. 

** If you have a desire to participate, but are unsure how you would fund the trip, please talk with Holly Kennell or Joan Wilson about financial aid options. Youth participants may be eligible for financial help from the Christian Education Department.

Sunday Dec. 13th: 10a.m. Family friend worship & 3 p.m.Healing Prayer Service

Child & Youth Led Worship - Sunday Dec. 13th - 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Come worship at a family friendly Christmas themed worship led by children and youth of Lake City Pres. Christmas Carols, Puppets, Christmas Skit performed by children for the sermon, and more. This is a great service to bring children, to give them a 'taste' of worship life and the expose them to the meaning of Christmas, while they are wiggly! There will not be Sunday school classes, but there will be Nursery Care available from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. for infants and toddlers up to age 3.

Healing Prayer Service - Sunday Dec. 13th - 3:00 p.m.
Is this Christmas not-so-merry for you or someone you know? Come to our healing service, bring a friend or family member with you, or come to represent someone who needs healing prayer. In song and silence, in private prayer and in Holy Communion, this is a time to come closer to Jesus Christ and to others who may be mourning or discouraged or lonely or guilty.  Whether everything is going splendidly or whether nothing feels right, it is our hope that this extra hour to be quiet before God will strengthen and sustain you through the days ahead.

Operation Christmas Child - At Lake City Pres this Sunday 11/15

"OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD" Shoebox Packing - This Sunday November 15th

Just a last minute reminder that this Sunday November 15th you are invited to participate in packing Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. We'll be meeting in the fellowship hall after worship at 11:00 a.m. Feel free to step in line and pack a box or two, it will take you less than five minutes! Prior to Sunday if you have extra cardboard shoeboxes or clear plastic shoeboxes (see-through rubbermaid style) that you can donate please bring them along on Sunday morning.  You can check out the gift suggestion list below to see what kinds of gifts you can bring to pack the boxes --- bring one or many items -- dollar stores are a great place to get several items on a budget.

Veteran's Day Rememberance Room Activities for 11/11

In this room will be interactive stations where children, youth, and parents & other adults are invited to:

* Light a candle or a few in honor of friends and family who are veterans

* Write a prayer on a banner to pray for those who are veterans

* Mold playdough, build with legos, or color/paint a picture focused on giving thanks for those who fight for American freedom.

* Write a letter or make a card to be given to a veteran through Operation Gratitude.

* Bring & donate your leftover Halloween candy (an extra bag) to donate to Operation Gratitude Halloween Candy Collection (they take the candy to children in various places around the world to make friends.(Here is a video about the candy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxIHgabfxKA).

So stop in anytime between 11am and 2pm take 15 minutes or a few hours to remember and honor our Veterans,

LCPC Work Parties for October & November

There are a few days coming up at LCPC where extra helping hands are needed to move stuff, lift stuff, and even decorate stuff. Just wanted to give you a heads up in case you have some time and hands available to help!

Invite friends, family members (youth welcome to help!), the more to help out the more fun to get the work done!

* THIS Saturday October 24th - All Church Work Party - 9am to 1p 

Come for all or part of the time to help. Wear clothing appropriate for working outside (if that is where you want to help):

Specific tasks are (but not limited to):

• - Moving some pews in the sanctuary to make space for wheelchair access in the sanctuary
• - Outdoor grounds clean up/ winterizing: leaf blowing,minor tree pruning,clearing gutters on 40th Ave. side of church.
• - Moving items large furniture in the youth room to one side of the room so that carpets in preparation for carpet cleaning.
• - Contact Steve Babinec or Irv Kellenberger for more information

* Sunday October 25th - Moving furniture in Youth room after worship to prep for getting the carpet cleaned. (If this has not already been done at the 24th work party)

* Saturday, November 28th - Greening of the Church - 9am to 12noon/1pm

Prepping the church for the Advent & Christmas seasons. Breaking out the LCPC decorations and assembling, lighting, and decorating the huge sanctuary tree. Need folks who love to hang garland & greens and others who can help lift a few heavy items to the rafters of the sanctuary. Contact Ron McLean for more information.

Thursday Night Set-Up 7:00pm, youth & anyone else who can,meet at church to set up tables, table settings, decorate etc. for the dinner in the Fellowship Hall.

Friday Night Slice/Chop/Dice for Salad Bar 6:00pm in LCPC kitchen, parents, grandparents, guardians and helpers etc, come and help prepare the ingredients for the salad bar for the dinner. 

Saturday Night Spaghetti Dinner, youth arrive no later than 4:00pm to go over last minute instructions. Dinner starts at 5:00pm.

Ritual Action: Parents and/or others not beginning school, make the sign of the cross on the forehead of the child going to school while saying these words: (Name), Jesus is with you wherever you go. Then have the child going to school place a Christian symbol (cross or other symbol) in the backpack or book bag as an ongoing reminder that Jesus is always present.

Come watch "Amazing Grace" coupled with a discussion exploring the thematic and spiritual parallels found in the movie. Invite your friends, bring your family!

"Amazing Grace" is a 2006 film directed by Michael Apted about the campaign against the slave trade in 18th century Britain, led by famous antislavery pioneer William Wilberforce. Wilberforce was a Member of Parliament who dedicated his life to a very unpopular and unprofitable aim - the abolishment of the slave trade in the British Empire.

New! Summer Faith Formation Associate. Welcome Kendall Jeske to LCPC

Hello LCPC friends,

A few of you have heard the news, some of you knew we were in this process and for others it may be first time news - we are bringing on someone to help out for children & youth ministry this summer at Lake City Presbyterian Church.

This "new guy's" name is Kendall Jeske and his title is "Summer Faith Formation Associate". His role will be working with the middle/high school youth and co-directing Vacation Bible School, in addition he'll be helping out with & learning what it means to work in children, youth, & family ministry in a congregation.This summer position is paid and approx. 15-20 hrs/wk and he is joining us for July 1st through August 31st. I am really excited to have him come on board and think you'll like him a lot

So he starts in the office on Wednesday this week (tomorrow!) and I'm hoping we'll have a chance for people to start meeting him on the 5th - more info on that later. If you get a call or an email from Kendall for Lake City Pres - He is perfectly legit so please don't hang up on or black list him in your inbox. (Thanks!)

Hello! My name is Kendall Jeske and I am graduate of Pacific Lutheran University and soon to be a seminary student, beginning this fall. I am very excited to have the chance to work with LCPC while being the Faith Formation Associate this summer. I'm especially excited to meet the youth and their families and to see what kinds of things I can learn in doing so. The past few summers I've spent at a Bible Camp in Idaho and a youth outreach center in Edmonds, WA. While I am a part of the LCP community this summer, please feel free to ask me questions, tell me jokes, and share your faith stories with me. One thing I ask of you, however, is to pray for me, for Leena, and for the youth and families of LCP and the surrounding community. 30 Hour Famine Retreat on February 27-28

Hey There! 

30 Hour Famine Retreat on February 27-28 for youth in Grade 6 - 12.

We have a great line up of activities planned including worship rally & activities at Overlake Christian Church in Redmond the evening of the 27th and then our group will be involved in a variety of service projects on Saturday the 28th. 

Please RSVP your interest to Leena by Sunday Feb. 8th. I'm going to be on vacation Feb. 12-24th and have 12 days to get most of this planned.

Friends are welcome to participate. Please have them RSVP by Feb. 8th as well.

30 HOUR FAMINE -- YOU ASK ?? THAT MEANS NO FOOD FOR 30 HOURS RIGHT? THAT'S JUST CRAZY!!

Fall 2008 Middle/High School Youth Update Happenings @ Lake City Pres

This Sunday, September 21st Hike - Let’s Take A Hike ~ all ages welcome
On Sunday Sept. 21, join us for a 2 mile round trip hike in the Denny Creek area. It is designed to be an easy family friendly hike. Next Wednesday, September 24th – See You at the Pole – 7 a.m. Your school. Children & youth join classmates for prayer at your school’s flag pole at 7:00 a.m. Contact your school or student leaders to find out more information. http://www.syatp.com/info/

Next Sunday, September 28th – Communion Informational Class during worship for children and youth 4th grade and higher. Jackie Brotnov will be leading a lesson on all the ins and outs of Communion for the 4th -6th grade class, older youth who are waiting for preparation before taking communion – here is your chance! If this date doesn’t work out for your family, please contact Leena Prindle, in the church office and we can work out other arrangements for your child(ren).

Next Middle School Grapple Group: For youth Grades 6-8 interested in hanging out with kids their age and Grappling together to figure out “Why should I trust God?” “Is there even really a God?” “What if I mess up?” and “Can’t you just leave me alone?”. Let’s Grapple with this God thing together – Sundays beginning September 28th in the Tween classroom from 11:30 a.m. -1pm. Includes grub, games, and techy stuff too! Contact Leena Prindle for a parent permission slip (will come soon attached to an email as well).

High School Get Togethers: Calling all youth grades 9-12. Sundays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Sunday September 28th. This is a time catered to, yes-YOU! Connect with others your age. Chat about issues that you are concerned about. Talk about music, eat some food, and hangout. Designed to help you work on your faith – and even respect if you have a lack of faith for now - and have fun doing it. Bring yourself, invite your friends – especially the ones who are bored and don’t go to church!

October 26th –Slime Time Halloween Party, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Gobs of games, tons of treats, and a life-changing message that’ll last long after all that candy is gone! This is a family event with games for toddler, preschool, and elementary age children! If you (youth and adults) would like to help out with this event in any form - publicity, games lead/assistant, greeter, food provider, etc contact Leena to join the team!

Geocaching Party This Sunday

LCPC children, youth,& families are invited to a

Geocaching Party

This Sunday, July 27^th

12:30p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

at Magnuson Park

7400 Sand Point Way NE, Seattle, WA 98115 > directions

Meet at the park for a NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY Geocaching experience.

All you need is a hankering to find a hidden treasure with a group of LCPC friends.

“What is Geocaching?” you ask. In simple terms: A treasure hunt using a GPS to find your treasure (cache).

We’ll meet up at Magnuson Park with Erick Blandin who is our resident Geocaching pro.

Erick will have coordinates for a few caches that are already hidden throughout the park, and he’ll show us how to use a GPS.

• If you have a GPS you can bring it along.
• If you have a GPS we could borrow, contact Erick by Sunday morning.
• Wear clothing and shoes appropriate for walking in the weather that day
• Young children need to have a parent present or another adult appointed to keep tabs on them.
• There will be light snacks provided, BUT please eat before or bring a lunch if you need something more substantial.
